Westerns weekend in the Mid-west
This weekend, 13 of our guys will be in Blaine, MN for the UPA High School Westerns Championships!
The weather forecast is looking good, and the teams are gearing up for the trip. South Eugene HS is also taking an Open team, and the roads for both Eugene teams will be tough, as our A and B pools look to be stronger than the C and D pools. We expect some challenging match-ups, and we’re ready after weeks of hard practice. More tournament information is available at the UPA website, and I’ll see what I can do to post updates during the weekend.
To the team…
It’s been a rough week for the sport of Ultimate in Eugene. Negative publicity due to some unfortunate local events, has caused many to question what Ultimate is all about. We know the sport cannot be defined by the poor judgement of a few individuals, and one isolated incident. Here’s a recently published article in the New York Times detailing the positive aspects of Ultimate, with a focus on women’s ultimate. There was also a recently published article on the front page of the Seattle Times, with a focus on the benfit of the sport in a community of youth, and highlighting one coach for elementary age kids. As youth players moving into college and club settings, you will be making decisions, and your decisions will determine the direction the sport takes. So my question to you is: “What will it be?”
Car Wash
We’ll have our third car wash this Saturday, April 25.
Meet at 10 am at the corner of Garfield and 7th. We’ll work until 3 pm. It should be sunny and not too hot, so perfect conditions.

Come, Friday, May 15th, we are going to Blaine, MN. We have officially received an Open team bid for Westerns. The UPA site has the competition listed, as well as other details about the weekend.
There will be a meeting this week to plan fundraisers. Plan for a car wash on any non-rainy Saturday from here on out. Stay posted for other opportunities.
